Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month
REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.
REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.
.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON. It takes about 20 seconds.

Another reason why I might be a "Luddite"- granted, not in the extreme that Ted Kuzinski took that concept, but because all the "High_tech' is just part of what Huxley predicted in "Brave new World"-- Also, one of my pet peeves while driving is the folks who are using their cell phones while behind the wheel- Unsafe at any speed. But I am curious- does this 'going public" scenario apply to the pre-paid cell phones that one can obtain at Radio Shack, etc?

Thanks, Jere.
As I pointed out in my next post after starting this thread, this wasn't the situation I was lead to believe it was. I guess I was prime to jump to conclusions, as telemarketing on cell phones really pisses me off.
Anyway, thanks for the Snopes reference.

So, gentlemen, does this mean what I had suspected? A Hoax? It did seem a tad bit strange to me that making the telemarketing industry privy to private cell phone numbers was a "stretch". Am I right??

Joseph, to be generous let's just assume it was just an "over reaction?"

Gentlemen,
Put all your phones on the do not call list, home, cell and business.

What just bothers me to no end is that tele-markets have the ability to get my cell phone number, and that we have to make defensive moves to stop them from bothering us. I only give my cell number to people I want to have it, and that's the way it should stay. Period.

I have not had any problem with telemarket calls on my cell.
On the other hand, I have put my landline on the DNC list three times and still get the darn things.
I filed a complaint with the FCC and got a rapid, but BS response.
